Award Ceremony for the Laureates of the 2025 Most Significant Achievements in Science

On 27 February, we invite you to follow the closing ceremony of the competition for the Most Significant Scientific Achievements of 2025 organized by the Latvian Academy of Sciences (LAS). During the ceremony, twelve laureates representing various fields of science will be honored. For the first time, one of the twelve laureates will receive a special export support prize from the LMT Group. In addition, ten other competition participants will receive Certificates of Recognition from the President of the LAS.

The award ceremony for the laureates will take place on 27 February at 2:00 PM in the Portrait Hall on the 3rd floor of the LAS building, Akadēmijas laukums 1. The ceremony will be livestreamed on the LAS YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@lzalatvia/streams

The event is supported by the Ministry of Education and Science and cooperation partners – Latvijas Finieris, LMT Group, Light Guide Optics International, and the law firm Eversheds Sutherland Bitans. Informational support is provided by Latvian Public Media – Latvian Television.

This year, a total of 55 applications were evaluated: 25 in natural sciences, engineering and technology, and medical sciences; 26 in humanities and social sciences; and 4 in agricultural sciences.

About the Competition

The LAS began compiling and assessing annual scientific achievements across all fields in 2002. In 2025, the competition was held for the 24th time. Since 2011, the LAS has organized a formal ceremony to honor the laureates, which has become a significant event in Latvia’s scientific community.

To promote Latvian science internationally, last year LAS prepared and, with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science and the Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation, published the yearbook “Latvian Academy of Sciences Yearbook 2025”, based on extended descriptions of the 2024 scientific achievements.
