Cognitive science debate and opening of a US professor's book

About event
The University of Latvia (UL) invites you to explore the world of cognitive sciences and the latest findings in this field of science, bringing together Latvian and US researchers for a joint discussion.
On August 19, at 5:00 p.m., a discussion of cognitive sciences by outstanding US and Latvian researchers will take place at the LU Library in Riga, Kalpaka Boulevard 4, as well as the opening of the latest book "Challenging Knowledge. How We (Sometimes) Don't Know What We Think We Know" by world-renowned professor of philosophy, science and theory of knowledge Jody Azzouni. The book was published in July by Oxford University Press.
Cognitive sciences are an interdisciplinary research direction that studies the processes of the psyche, language, cognition, consciousness and perception and their mutual interaction. In Latvia, the leaders in this field of science are the Laboratory of Perception and Cognitive Systems of the Faculty of Exact Sciences and Technology of the University of Latvia, headed by LU Professor Jurģis Šķilters. The international recognition of the laboratory he leads and the close cooperation with colleagues abroad are the reasons why US professor Jody Azzouni offered to organise the opening of his latest work and the discussion directly at the University of Latvia.
The discussion will be held in English, with participants both in person and remotely. Those interested will be able to watch the debate on the University of Latvia YouTube channel.
Jody Azzouni is a professor of philosophy at Tufts University in the USA. He received his master's degree in mathematics and his doctorate in philosophy from the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University. After receiving his doctorate, he joined the Faculty of Philosophy at Tufts University, where he works to this day. Professor Azzouni has published widely in the field of philosophy, especially in the philosophy of mathematics, focusing on ontology and proof, as well as in the philosophy of language, philosophy of science, theory of science and knowledge, epistemology, and metaphysics.
The discussion will be moderated by Professor Jurģis Šķilters, with introductory remarks by the Chairman of the Council of the University of Latvia, Professor Mārcis Auziņš. The discussion will be attended remotely by Professor Otavio Bueno, Cooper Senior Scholar in Arts and Sciences, University of Miami, USA, the University of Florida, USA, researcher Rodrigo Borges, University of Florida, USA, researcher Corey Dethier, Minnesota Center for Philosophy of Science, University of Minnesota, USA, and Professor Michael Glanzberg, Rutgers University, USA.
