Discussion “The Digital Public Space: Disinformation, Elections and Privacy – Can We Control the Rules of the Game?”

About event

This year, the University of Latvia is once again participating in the LAMPA Conversation Festival with a special programme, “Aurora Nexus FM”. This discussion is part of the programme, which invites participants to take part in discussions about science, society and the future over the course of two days — in an understandable, human and engaging way.

Is the digital environment a free public space or a reality shaped by private platforms?

At the Science Café, we will discuss how social media, algorithms and user habits influence public opinion, political discussions and the reliability of information, particularly during elections. We will talk about disinformation, manipulated content, privacy in the digital environment, and how to recognise and respond when encountering illegal or misleading content online.

The discussion will take place on 10 July from 15.00 to 16.00 in Cēsis, at the AURORA NEXUS FM / Radio NABA studio of the LAMPA festival.

If you cannot attend in person in Cēsis, join the live broadcast in this Facebook event, on the University of Latvia YouTube channel, or listen on Radio NABA.

The event is taking place within the framework of the European Commission science communication project “Aurora Nexus: Connecting People, Science and Art”, implemented at the University of Latvia with the support of the European Union. The aim of the project is to strengthen the connection between researchers and society by making science more understandable, accessible and experience-based.
