About event
Riga Technical University (RTU) Doctoral School invites PhD students, Master’s students, academic staff and all interested participants to an event on 13 May, European Doctoral Day, from 15:00 to 17:00 — an afternoon meetup where attendees will hear inspiring experience stories and learn how doctoral studies can become a solid springboard for careers in both science and industry.
The event will take place in The Moon hall at the RTU Science and Innovation Centre, Ķīpsalas iela 6A, 2nd floor. Advance registration is mandatory by 6 May by completing the registration form.
During the event, participants will learn:
- why doctoral studies are valuable
- what benefits they offer for professional and personal development
- how a doctoral degree supports career growth across different fields
- what role doctoral candidates play in today’s rapidly changing world
Speakers joining the discussion and sharing their experience:
- Maira Indrikova, RTU Vice-Rector for Science
- Inga Dāboliņa, Head of the Personal Protective Equipment Laboratory, RTU Faculty of Civil and Mechanical Engineering (BMF)
- Lauma Muižniece, Head of the RTU Grant Office
- Kārlis Dreimanis, Director of the Institute of Particle Physics and Accelerator Technologies, RTU Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technologies (DTF), and Head of the Latvian Group in the CMS experiment at CERN
The discussion will be moderated by Zanda Pavasare, Acting Head of the RTU Doctoral School.
This will be an opportunity to ask questions in an informal atmosphere over a cup of coffee, gain inspiration from personal stories, and discover how doctoral studies can serve as a strong foundation for a future career in science or industry.
