Vidzeme Open Innovation Centre will organise the annual Innovation Co-creation Laboratory (IKL), bringing together for the first time researchers and students from Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences' foreign partner universities to work on the challenges of Vidzeme entrepreneurs in the food and beverage technology sector.

Entrepreneurs from the industry from Vidzeme are invited to participate in the Innovation Co-creation Laboratory, indicating a specific problem and idea to be solved or developed, as well as Latvian researchers with thematic specialisation, including nutrition science, functional food and beverage creation, usability of information and communication technology solutions, and food and beverage technologies.
Benefits for entrepreneurs from participating in the Innovation Co-creation Laboratory: practical experience in solving business challenges together with researchers and students; solution concepts or already tested first prototypes for an identified problem, the opportunity to look at the operations of their company from different perspectives, new local and international contacts for further cooperation with other entrepreneurs, researchers and students.
Benefits for researchers from participating in the Innovation Co-creation Laboratory: a deeper understanding of the problems of various economic sectors and their influencing factors, the importance, necessity and practical applicability of their research direction, the opportunity to emphasize and strengthen the significance of their previous research work from the perspective of potential cooperation partners, new ideas for future research, an expanded circle of contacts in both the scientific and business environment.
Innovation Co-creation Laboratories have already been held in the past on topics such as sustainable food packaging, algae as a resource for innovation and forest resources for creating innovative services, which have brought together more than 100 participants from Vidzeme and all of Latvia.
