RTU Will Introduce Technologies for Sports Development

Face-to-face event
About event

Riga Technical University (RTU) invites representatives of professional sports federations and industry professionals interested in aerodynamics, gliding and composite innovations, as well as other interested parties, to participate in the event "How engineering science in Latvia develops high-performance sports?" and learn about the achievements of RTU scientists in the development of sports technologies.

Register for participation.

Visitors to the event will have the opportunity to visit several RTU laboratories and meet with researchers to learn about the work already done so far in the national research program "Sports" project "Innovations, methodologies and recommendations for the development and management of the sports sector in Latvia" and plans. Researchers especially invite representatives of sports federations, professionals who work with athletes' technical equipment and monitor athletes' fitness, sports and health status daily, as well as representatives of various companies to participate in the event. Researchers are interested in hearing their vision of the industry's needs and directions in which it would be valuable to continue or initiate research and technology development in the national research program "Sports" or other potential research projects, including in close cooperation with industry.

In the most ambitious national research project dedicated to the development of sports to date, RTU scientists focus on developing technologies and tools for high-performance sports participants to ensure the testing and improvement of material properties of equipment required in technical sports. They analyze high-performance materials and their dynamic properties, develop composite materials for the construction of sports equipment, measure surface geometry and test friction properties, which are especially important in track sports, study and model the aerodynamic properties of various materials, as well as analyze the movement of people and objects in real time, which will allow providing accurate feedback on the performance of athletes in technical sports.

The event will be attended by the head of the RTU Sports Technology Centre, Mārtiņš Rubenis, leading researcher at the Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering of RTU, Jānis Lungevičs, associate professor at the Institute of Aeronautics, Space Engineering and Transport, Ali Arshad, and leading researcher at the Institute of High Performance Materials and Structures, Andrejs Pupurs, and their colleagues actively involved in the project.

RTU invites interested parties to gather at 9:00 a.m. at Ķīpsalas Street 6, 1st floor.
