Scientists’ Life Talks “SCIENTIST. ALIVE.”

Date and time: 10 July, 12:30–13:30 Venue: Education Stage 21 Accessibility

At the LAMPA Conversation Festival, the Latvian Young Scientists’ Association (LJZA) will host a one‑day event, “SCIENTIST. ALIVE.”, continuing the 2024 campaign “Think Slowly”. This year, the focus shifts to the scientist as a person — the human being who carries out this process of thinking in practice.

On the Education Stage, visitors will hear Scientists’ Life Talks — 3‑minute presentations in which six young researchers will speak not about graphs and results, but about choices, dilemmas, failures and courage along the scientific path.

The introductory talk, “Global Scientific Challenges in Latvia”, will be delivered by Oskars Teikmanis, Chair of the LJZA Board.

Life Talk Speakers

12:45–12:50 — Marta Barone, “Science as an Adventure — Quests and Discoveries”   12:50–12:55 — Marta Gēbele, “The Courage to Speak Saves Lives: My Path in Science”   12:55–13:00 — Zane Šime, “A Cultivated, Not a Predetermined, Academic Identity”   13:00–13:05 — Laura Ķēniņa, “A Scientist’s Life Between Forests, Data and Family — The Reality You Don’t See in Scientific Papers”   13:05–13:10 — Alīna Sivačova, “Why Do Young People Still Choose Science?”   13:10–13:15 — Diāna Hristenko, “From Rituals to Rituals: How Soviet Power Replaced the Church”
