Seminar “Deciduous Trees in Forest Stands and Woody Plantations”

About event

On 4 November, the seminar “Deciduous Trees in Forest Stands and Woody Plantations” will take place at the experimental sites of the Latvian State Forest Research Institute “Silava” in the Kalsnava Forest District of the Forest Research Station. At the seminar, LVMI “Silava” researchers Oskars Krišāns, Dagnija Lazdiņa, Laura Ķēniņa and Kristaps Makovskis will share the latest findings on the role of deciduous trees in forest stands, afforestation and the establishment of woody plantations.

At the seminar, you will learn:

  • How deciduous trees contribute to forest resilience and adaptation to climate change;
  • How to increase the proportion of deciduous trees in forest stands and the landscape;
  • How thoughtfully designed woody plantations can help preserve biodiversity;
  • Which solutions promote sustainable forest management.

The seminar is being organised as part of the ForestBand study within the Interreg Estonia–Latvia Cross-Border Cooperation Programme. The study is being implemented by LVMI “Silava” in cooperation with the Estonian University of Life Sciences, seeking solutions suited to climate change that support the preservation of biodiversity.

Forest owners, forestry professionals, researchers and other interested participants are invited to attend the seminar.
