The World Wide Fund for Nature invites you to join an exploratory cleanup in the Auce river!

About event
An exploratory cleanup will take place in the Auce river, not far from Penkule in Dobele district on August 10 at At 11.00. It is planned to remove fallen trees, while understanding the role of wood and other elements in the river and ensuring its diversity. The event is organized within the framework of the LIFE GoodWater IP project, the implementation of which involves researchers from the Latvian University of Biosciences and Technologies.
According to The World Wide Fund for Nature, activities took place in Auce last year as well, freeing the section of the river from beaver dams and larger fallen trees, which significantly slowed down the flow of the stream. This year, the work will continue as the impact of other landslides on the river was aggravated by trees that fell in the wind.
The cleanup is open to anyone who wants to try hands-on work in the river and learn more about what structures should or should not be in them. The location of the cleanup is near Penkule, Dobele district, 56.492491, 23.242037.
"The planned works will take place in the river itself - we will lift, pull and push trees of different sizes, we will probably also work with the demolition of beaver dams. The work will be physical, but everyone can do it according to their own abilities. Everything necessary for cleaning will be provided. Lunch will be waiting for us after cleaning. It is important to arrive in suitable clothing - long pants (clothes up to the ankles), long socks, shirts with long sleeves to protect yourself from scratches. The main thing is that the clothes are comfortable and you can work freely in them. Most likely, you should be prepared to get wet, so bring a change of clothes. If possible, you can come in waterproof pants or overalls, but they will also be provided if necessary," the organizers inform.
