The Institute of Public Health of Rīga Stradiņš University invites you to a training session on the use of SHARE data

The Institute of Public Health of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) is organising a training session on the use of SHARE data. The training will take place on December 5, in person, at 21 Konsula Street, Riga. The event is scheduled to take place from 9:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
The training will cover both theoretical and practical aspects related to the SHARE data infrastructure. The lecturers will provide an overview of data structure, management, and documentation related to the use of SHARE data. Attention will also be given to practical recommendations based on the lecturers’ experience in applying SHARE data in research. Following the presentations, there will be a discussion and Q&A session, during which participants will be encouraged to ask questions, share their experiences, and take part in the discussion.
Lead researchers and acting lead researchers, research assistants and acting research assistants, scientific assistants and acting scientific assistants, as well as other interested participants, are invited to take part in the training.
The training will be led by Dr. Fabio Franzese, Researcher at the SHARE Berlin Institute and Representative of the team of SHARE Database Management and Professor Antanas Kairys, Professor at Vilnius University and SHARE country team leader of Lithuania.
Dr. Fabio Franzese is a representative of the SHARE Central Office, specialising in SHARE data management and analysis. As an expert in SHARE data management and methodology, he is responsible for monitoring the quality of data collection and preparation, as well as contributing to the development of SHARE-related documentation. Dr. Franzese’s research focuses on the measurement of physical activity and health indicators, analysing SHARE data also at the international level. He is the author of several publications on health-related topics.
Prof. Antanas Kairys leads scientific research at Vilnius University as the head of the Laboratory of Applied Psychology at the Psychology Institute. Since 2015, he has been the Lithuanian country team leader of the SHARE. Professor A. Kairys’s scientific interests include the study of well-being among older adults, with a particular focus on aspects of mental health, using SHARE data in analysis.

SHARE (Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe) is a European-wide study that provides an in-depth insight into the processes of population ageing and their influencing factors, covering the fields of health, economics, demography, and social support. Within the framework of the study, individuals aged 50 and over are interviewed to collect information on health status, psychological well-being, employment, income, education, family status, children, family ties, social networks, and voluntary activities.
Access to SHARE data for scientific use is provided free of charge to researchers, in compliance with European Union and national data protection laws, as well as publicly available usage conditions. More information is available here.

The training is organised within the framework of the project “RSU Participation in the Horizon Europe Programme” (Project No. 1.1.1.5/3/25/I/014), one of the objectives of which is to inform and educate researchers about the opportunities to use SHARE data in research.
