Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) is strengthening Latvia’s capacity in translational medicine by initiating cooperation with the Children’s Clinical University Hospital and Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital. The partners have signed national agreements to join the European research infrastructure consortium for translational medicine EATRIS-ERIC.

The cooperation agreements were signed on 9 October 2025 during the PMNET Forum, confirming a shared goal to promote evidence-based medical development both in Latvia and across Europe. Participation in the EATRIS-ERIC platform will enable faster development of new medical technologies, improve patient care, and strengthen the competitiveness of Latvian science within the European Research Area.

"Translational medicine is a bridge between fundamental scientific discoveries and practical medicine. This collaboration with leading university hospitals will enhance our ability to develop new diagnostic technologies and treatment solutions that directly improve patient care," emphasises RSU Vice-Rector for Science, Agrita Kiopa.

According to the agreements:

  • RSU, as the national coordinator of EATRIS in Latvia, will continue to coordinate information exchange and support the development of new research infrastructure centres;
  • The university hospitals will establish specialised services within various EATRIS platforms — including biological medicines, innovative therapies, biomarkers, imaging, and vaccines.

Participation in EATRIS-ERIC offers Latvian institutions the opportunity to:

  • Become part of the European translational medicine community;
  • Collaborate with leading research centres;
  • Attract new projects and funding to advance science and innovation.

This cooperation step is part of the RSU-implemented project “RSU participation in the Horizon Europe programme” (Project No. 1.1.1.5/3/25/I/014), launched on 1 June 2025.
