January 29, 2026
On 11 December 2025, as part of the regular Open Doors events held every second Thursday of the month, the Microbial Strain Collection of Latvia welcomed visitors interested in microbiology and life sciences. The event was attended by students, researchers, teachers, and members of the public.

Participants received a brief introduction to the importance of microorganisms in science, industry, and everyday life, as well as an overview of how microbial cultures are preserved and used in research. The role of the collection within the European research infrastructure MIRRI-ERIC was also highlighted.
During a guided laboratory tour, visitors explored microorganism storage facilities, cryocollections, and laboratory workspaces. Practical demonstrations included observing microorganisms under microscopes and learning about cultivation techniques. The event took place in a friendly and informal atmosphere, encouraging discussion about science, education, and career opportunities in the life sciences.
