The World of Microbiology
Take a look into the invisible world of microorganisms! Find out what bacteria look like, how they differ from one another, and why they are so important for food safety and our everyday lives. You will be able to create different bacterial shapes from modelling clay, assemble a bacterial genome puzzle, examine microbiological samples, and learn about the methods scientists use to study microorganisms and assess food safety.
First Steps in Science
How is scientific research carried out? You will be able to find out by exploring the results of students’ scientific research projects. The young researchers themselves will present their studies and explain how a question develops into an idea, an experiment, and a discovery.
Fish Age Detectives
How old is a fish? Find out together with aquaculture researchers! Using five different fish structures – scales, otoliths, fin rays, gill covers, and vertebrae – you will be able to try the methods scientists use to determine the age of fish and learn what this information tells us about fish populations.
The World of Marine and Inland Waters
Explore the diversity of Latvia’s waters and learn how researchers determine the age of different marine and freshwater fish species. Test your knowledge in a game about fish resources and find out how to use them in a way that ensures there will still be fish in our waters in the future.
Safe Food Mission
Do you know what risks may be hidden in food? Take part in a food safety game, assess different situations, and test whether you can identify potential food risks. Find out how scientists help make our food safer.
Scientists’ Lectures
Discover the work of BIOR researchers and learn more about studies that help us understand human, animal, and environmental health. The scientists’ lectures will offer an insight into topics related to food safety, microorganisms, fish resources, and other current scientific issues.
