About event
Take a look at the underwater world with LHEI!
The Latvian Hydroecology Institute invites visitors to embark on an exciting journey into the world of underwater mysteries, getting to know the ecology of the Baltic Sea and Latvian freshwaters. Interactive stands and activities will provide an opportunity to learn about the institute's latest research – the spread of invasive species, eutrophication processes, microplastic pollution and its impact on the aquatic environment, as well as seaweed cultivation.
Visitors to the event will be able to:
- walk an interactive route and discover the surprises of the underwater world;
- see the equipment used in research, heavy diving suits and magnificent underwater fauna;
- take a look into the microscopic world of algae and zooplankton;
- participate in educational and creative activities about biodiversity, eutrophication and coastal natural values in the mobile nature classroom;
- learn about the path of plastic pollution to waters and human food, as well as how much microplastic is found on our beaches;
- get to know floating islands and smart buoy solutions.
- The event will be a great opportunity for both children and adults to consolidate existing knowledge and gain new insights into our water world and the importance of its protection excitingly and understandably.
