For 80 years, the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry (LSIWC) has been one of the leading research centres for wood and other biomass in the Baltic region. Founded in 1946, the institute combines decades-long scientific traditions with a dynamic approach to the latest trends in wood chemistry, green synthesis, and materials science.
The Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry employs around 100 people representing various scientific disciplines, including chemistry, biology, and materials science. The institute’s main research areas are:
- wood materials,
- biorefining,
- green chemistry and biotechnology.
