As part of Researchers’ Night on 25 September, the Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Centre (VIRAC) in Irbene invites school groups to free educational tours.
The tours will be available on 25 September from 08:30 to 17:00, by prior registration only.
The tour route will include:
• a visit to the RT-8 tower and exhibition, introducing the history of the Irbene complex and its radio telescopes;
• a viewing of the historic RT-16 antenna;
• a visit to the underground tunnel;
• an exterior viewing of the RT-32 radio telescope and an introduction to its operation and use in scientific research.
During the tour, students will learn about the work of the Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Centre, the structure of radio telescopes and their use in science, as well as the history of the Irbene complex.
