In October, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) hosted the interdisciplinary scientific conference “Psychology for Health and Societal Development,” within which the symposium “Secondary data in research: SHARE data and their possibilities” took place.

Aija Bukova-Žideļūna, the SHARE country team leader of Latvia, introduced the methodology of the study and examples of data use. Lead researcher Kristīne Šneidere shared her experience of using SHARE data within a postdoctoral grant on the relationship between psychosocial factors and memory indicators in older adults. Doctoral student Madara Miķelsone presented research conducted as part of her doctoral studies on the development of a healthy ageing index, as well as results from a study on loneliness and social isolation among older adults. Doctoral student Laura Maļina presented the first results from a study on the relationship between social well-being indicators and quality of life among older adults in Latvia.

The video recording of the event is available in the event programme section on the RSU website.

SHARE (Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe) is a European-wide study that provides an in-depth insight into the processes of population ageing and their influencing factors, covering the fields of health, economics, demography, and social support. Within the framework of the study, individuals aged 50 and over are interviewed to collect information on health status, psychological well-being, employment, income, education, family status, children, family ties, social networks, and voluntary activities. More detailed information on SHARE data collection in Latvia is available here.

Updates and news can be followed on the SHARE Latvia Facebook page.

Access to SHARE data for scientific use is provided free of charge to researchers, in compliance with European Union and national data protection laws, as well as publicly available usage conditions. More information is available here.

RSU participates in the project “RSU Participation in the Horizon Europe Programme” (project No. 1.1.1.5/3/25/I/014), one of the aims of which is to inform and educate researchers about the possibilities of using SHARE data in research.
