Commercialisation Support for Scientific Institutions and Businesses

The Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) plans to launch the application process for the commercialisation support program on September 15, offering support of up to EUR 300,000 with a 50% co-financing rate.

Scientific institutions can receive support to implement technology transfer projects and research projects that are not directly related to economic activity.
Businesses can receive support to implement technology transfer and research projects.

The following activities are eligible under the support program:
  • development of a commercialisation strategy;
  • technical and economic feasibility study;
  • industrial research;
  • experimental development;
  • strengthening of industrial property rights;
  • development of industrial design for a product;
  • product or technology certification and testing services;
  • preparation of a commercialisation offer;
  • licensing services;

Applications will remain open until the total requested support amount exceeds the available funding for the program by more than 30%, but for no longer than one month. LIAA will regularly publish updates on the requested support amount in the “News” section of the program page at business.gov.lv. The total available funding is EUR 2,750,447.16.
Support is intended for Latvian-registered businesses and scientific institutions for the development of new, commercially viable products or technologies. Scientific institutions can receive support for research projects unrelated to economic activity, while for businesses, the support will be provided as state aid (de minimis aid).
Eligible applicants include micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), small mid-cap companies, as well as mid-cap companies and large enterprises, provided that they collaborate with micro, small, or medium-sized companies in research and innovation activities within the project.

To learn more about the commercialisation support program, LIAA invites Latvian businesses and scientific institutions to an online seminar, which will take place on September 10 at 11:00. The connection link will be available one day before the workshop.
