Daugavpils University Science Awards for the Year Presented

On March 18, the Hesperides Golden Apple, the symbol of knowledge and eternal youth of Daugavpils University, was presented during a ceremony at the Daugavpils University Concert Hall. The Daugavpils University Science Awards for the Year were granted to DU researchers for their outstanding achievements in science, contributing to the scientific development of the university.

The awards were presented in three categories: "DU Lifetime Achievement Award in Science," "DU Science Award of the Year," and "DU Young Scientist of the Year Award."

DU Young Scientist of the Year 2024:
  • In the field of natural sciences, engineering, and technology: Ph.D. Rolands Moisejevs for significant research in biodiversity, his contribution to promoting Daugavpils University, and fostering cooperation with other scientific institutions.

  • In the field of humanities, arts, and social sciences: Assoc. Prof. Ph.D. Jānis Kudiņš for significant research in economics and business, and his efforts in promoting inter-institutional cooperation.

DU Science Award of the Year 2024:
  • In the field of natural sciences, engineering, and technology: Prof. Dr. biol. Artūrs Škute for significant scientific research in the conservation and sustainable use of aquatic biological resources, as well as his exceptional participation in national and international scientific projects.

  • In the field of humanities, arts, and social sciences: Assoc. Prof. Dr. iur. Anatolijs Kriviņš for significant interdisciplinary research in legal sciences, promoting academic cooperation, and ensuring high-quality work in the study process.

DU Lifetime Achievement Award in Science:
  • Prof. Dr. iur. Vitolds Zahars for excellence in training young scientists, significant contribution to the development of legal sciences, and the preservation of academic traditions at Daugavpils University.

The tradition of granting the DU Science Awards was started in 2009, when the award was given for achievements in 2008.

DU Science Award Laureates:
  • Student of the Year: Anija Rozentāle, 3rd-year student of the Bachelor's degree program "Music" at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

  • Teacher of the Year: Assoc. Prof. Dr. biol. Irēna Kaminska, Department of Health Care, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Health Care.

  • Employee of the Year: Prof. Dr. biol. Inese Kokina, Vice-Rector for Studies, Daugavpils University, Acting Vice-Rector for Science.

  • School of the Year: Daugavpils Science Secondary School, Principal Vitālijs Azarevičs.
