European Institute of Innovation and Technology's Health Knowledge and Innovation Community (EIT Health) invites students, early-stage entrepreneurs, researchers, and healthcare professionals to take part in a free introductory course on early health technology assessment. This course is a great opportunity to gain practical knowledge on how to evaluate ideas and development plans before taking them to market, helping innovators save resources and increase the impact of the innovation.

The EIT Health Introductory Course on Early Health Technology Assessment (eHTA) is available online until the end of 2025. Participants can complete it at their own pace and convenience – the full course takes approximately 4 hours. At the end, participants will receive a certificate from a recognised EU institution, which can be a valuable asset both in academic and professional settings.

The course is designed to support developers and innovators in identifying key challenges early in the development process, including technical, clinical, and market-related risks. Participants will learn how to assess the potential of health innovations, design investor outreach strategies, analyse cost-effectiveness, and develop sustainable business models. The course content is particularly relevant for those working on medical technology or digital health solutions.

"In the early stages of developing a healthcare technology, it’s crucial to identify potential users, understand the market landscape, and evaluate your innovation – not just in terms of pure costs, but also by considering how much people would actually be willing to pay for it.  This course offers practical tools for assessing technologies, plus helpful guidance on how to talk to investors, choose the right strategy, and when to pause or pivot," says Luīze Madara Ziediņa, EIT Health Representative in Latvia.

EIT Health is one of Europe’s largest public-private partnerships in health innovation, bringing together more than 130 partners from academia, industry, and research, and supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). Its mission is to create an ecosystem that fosters the development of innovative healthcare solutions and supports people in living longer, healthier lives. EIT Health provides mentoring, funding, and research support to innovators. So far, it has helped bring 113 healthcare solutions to market and has trained over 49,000 students and professionals. In Latvia, EIT Health is coordinated by Rīga Stradiņš University.
