About event

Registration is open for the international conference “Culture and Creativity: Place-Based Innovations in Regions”, which will take place on 11–13 May in Valmiera.

The conference will bring together researchers, artists, cultural and creative sector professionals, as well as policymakers from Latvia and other countries to discuss the role of culture and creative industries in improving quality of life, strengthening community resilience, and fostering innovation beyond major cities. It will serve as a platform for international collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the development of new partnerships.

The event will feature internationally recognised scholars, including Susan Luckman (University of Adelaide), Timothy Wojan (USA), Jude Ortiz (NORDIK Institute, Canada), and Nancy Duxbury (University of Coimbra).

The conference is organised by the Latvian Academy of Culture in cooperation with the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra, Culture Action Europe, the European Network of Cultural Centres, and local partners — Valmiera Municipality and Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences. It will serve as the final conference of the European Union’s Horizon Europe project IN SITU, where the project’s results and policy recommendations will be presented.
