Final conference of two scientific projects of the State Research Program

On December 10, from 11:00, the final conference of the scientific projects "GreenAgroRes" and "Forest4LV" of the State Research Program (SRP) will be held in the Aula of the Latvian University of Biosciences and Technology (LBTU) (Lielā iela 2, Jelgava). Scientists from the agricultural, food production and forestry sectors, policy makers, entrepreneurs, organizations and other interested parties are invited to participate in the conference to discuss the results and main conclusions of the projects, discuss the production of high-quality and competitive products in environmentally friendly agriculture, analyze the impact of the European Green Deal in rural areas of Latvia, get acquainted with innovative prototypes of value-added solutions in the forest sector in the world and other topical topics.

The conference will be opened by the Minister of Agriculture, Armands Krauze, and the Rector of the Latvian University of Biosciences and Technology (LBTU), Irina Arhipova.

After the conference opening, a plenary session will be held, where several project news items will be reported:

"GreenAgroRes results - main conclusions and recommendations for policymakers and the industry" (reporter: project manager D. Segliņa); "Forest4LV results - innovation and development directions in forestry and the wood industry" (reporter: project manager U. Cābulis); "Development of sustainable, high-quality and competitive agricultural production in environmentally friendly agriculture" (reporter: S. Zute); "From shallow to regeneration felling: pine genetic wealth for productivity and resistance" (reporter: R. Matisons); "Socio-economic aspects of the impact of the European Green Deal on Latvian agriculture and rural space" (reporter: A. Nipers); "From innovative ideas and prototypes to industrial value-added solutions for the forest sector in the world" (reported by M. Lauberts); "Policy priorities" (reported by J. Šņakšis).

The work will then take place in two panel discussions. In the first thematic block, experts will discuss solutions for sustainable agriculture and fisheries, food security, consumption trends and innovations in the food sector. This block will present the following topics:

  • "Possibilities for reducing pesticides in winter wheat cultivation" (reported by I. Morozova);
  • "Climate-friendly practices in horticulture" (reported by L. Lepse);
  • "Possibilities for reducing antimicrobial resistance in animal husbandry" (reported by K. Kovaļenko);
  • "High-value-added products in the food system" (reported by T. Ķince);
  • "Circular economy solutions in the food sector" (reported by V. Radenkovs);
  • "Challenges in food consumption and fisheries" (reported by J. Ruško);
  • "Competitiveness of Latvian agriculture to meet the goals of the European Green Deal" (reporter: A. Muška).

The second thematic block will be dedicated to sustainable forest management and to innovative technologies and products that promote the efficient and sustainable use of local forest resources. It will discuss important topics:

  • "Modern forest management: goals and methods" (reporter: K. Liepiņš);
  • "Innovations in Latvian State Forest Management" (reporter: G. Priedītis);
  • "Science support for forest policy and achieving climate goals" (reporter: Ā. Jansons);
  • "Creating added value for the wood product chain" (reporter: J. Rižikovs);
  • "Innovative solutions for construction and furniture production" (reporter: U. Spulle);
  • "Innovations in the forest sector - for industry and education" (reporter: P. Beķeris);
  • "Digital solutions and modelling in forest science and industry" (reporter: G. Šnepsts).

At the end of the conference, a joint closing session will be held, during which the main conclusions, proposals for further cooperation, and policy recommendations will be discussed.
