About event
Solar Cup 2025
The Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (UL ISSP) invites students to participate in the annual science and technology competition "Solar Cup 2025," which will take place on May 24, 2025!
Students in grades 5–12 will have the opportunity to create moving models—both driving and floating—that run solely on solar energy. In the “People’s Class,” participants will have access to materials provided by UL ISSP, while in the “Non-standard Class,” they will be able to design their own models.
Before the in-person competition, students will form teams of 2–3 participants and, using the solar panels and motors provided by UL ISSP *, along with available materials, they will create solar-powered models to compete in various disciplines.
*To receive the solar panels and motors for model creation, teams must submit model descriptions and sketches to the competition organizers.
Register your team by April 21! APPLICATION FORM [LV] | COMPETITION REGULATIONS [LV]
The closing event will take place on May 24 at the UL ISSP (Ķengaraga Street 8, Riga). During the day, participants will compete with their solar-powered models, attend informative lectures, and learn more about renewable energy sources.
The best teams and most innovative models will receive prizes!
This will be the 17th edition of the "Solar Cup," and its goal remains to inspire young people to think about science, technology, and a sustainable future.
Come and show what solar energy can do!
