Seminar on ALMA data processing
About event
At Ventspils University of Applied Sciences, on May 21 at 13:00, a seminar “Experience in ALMA Data Processing and Its Application in Comet Research” will take place, which will be led by doctoral student and researcher at the Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Centre, Karina Šķirmante.
Seminar participants will have the opportunity to become acquainted with practical experience in working with data obtained from one of the world’s most advanced radio astronomy observatories — ALMA (Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array) — and its application in comet research.
Researcher Karina Šķirmante will introduce the principles of interferometer operation, the planning of radio astronomical observations, data evaluation and processing, as well as the possibilities of using ALMA archive data for the study of objects in the Solar System.
The seminar will be particularly useful for those who wish to expand their knowledge in astronomical data processing and modern radio astronomy.
The seminar is organised within the framework of the European Regional Development Fund project No. 1.1.1.5/3/25/I/012 “International Cooperation and Innovation of Ventspils University of Applied Sciences for the Development of Latvia’s Smart Specialisation”.
