The Latvian Microchip Competence Centre (LCCC) invites micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, including startups, to submit their technological needs, questions, and ideas for expert consultations in the field of microchips and related high technologies.
The aim of the consultations is to help companies better understand how their technological needs align thematically with LCCC’s areas of expertise, discuss possible development directions, and identify further cooperation opportunities within the Latvian and European microchip ecosystem.
“Latvia has companies with interesting ideas and specific technological needs, but it is not always clear where to start, which experts to approach, or what opportunities are available in the particular field. Through these consultations, we want to create a practical first step in which a company can structure its question, receive an expert perspective, and better understand possible directions for further development and cooperation,” emphasizes Pauls Irbins, Head of LCCC.
Working groups will be formed taking into account the interests and needs of companies. The consultation topics may be related to micro- and nanoelectronics, photonics, sensors, quantum technologies, materials science, modelling and simulation, as well as measurement and characterization approaches. The consultations are intended as a structured format for knowledge transfer and expert insight. During them, companies will have the opportunity to formulate their technological question more clearly, understand its possible connection with LCCC’s areas of expertise, and assess which directions for further cooperation may be suitable for them.
The scope of consultations for one approved application will range from eight to 24 expert hours, depending on the consultation topic and expert availability. The consultation is a general knowledge transfer activity and does not include the development of an individual technical solution, testing, measurements, or validation. Participation in the consultations is free of charge. Applications will be evaluated based on their relevance, thematic suitability, and available expert capacity. Companies should not include trade secrets, confidential, or commercially sensitive information in their applications. Working group consultations are planned to be organised in September, taking into account the number of applications received, their thematic distribution, and expert availability.

The consultations are the next practical step following the webinars organised by LCCC this summer, during which companies were able to discuss current technological issues with experts.
LCCC is the national coordination centre that promotes the development of the semiconductor and microelectronics sector in Latvia by strengthening cooperation between science and industry and providing access to expertise, infrastructure, and funding opportunities. The centre is led by Riga Technical University in close cooperation with the University of Latvia, bringing together Latvia’s research and innovation capacity in microelectronics, photonics, and high-performance materials. The project is funded under the European Union’s Digital Europe Programme.
