About event
Description
Several events will be held at the Institute of Latvian History, part of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Latvia.
1. Medieval tin casting skills: a cross-shaped pendant for each

The activity involves everyone participating in an archaeological experiment - casting a tin cross. The activity is planned for outdoor conditions - the tin needs to be heated on coals.

2. Natural dyes and painting: an insight into history and research

Textile dyeing, both with natural and artificial dyes, is part of the intangible cultural heritage that influences our visual identity. This time, visitors will be introduced to the natural dyes used in Latvia, the study of their use, the change in tradition and the historical context. An extensive collection of painted samples obtained as a result of systematic dyeing experiments will be available, as well as other visual materials. Visitors to the event will have the opportunity to hear a story about the research process, its results and the latest research in this field elsewhere in the world, as well as receive answers to a wide range of questions, from research to practical aspects of painting.
