Discussion Forum "Science for the Development of Latvian Sports"

About event

At the discussion forum, researchers, policymakers, municipal representatives and sports industry professionals will discuss how to turn the latest scientific research and recommendations into practical solutions for the development of Latvian sports. The forum will focus on youth health and safety in sports, accessibility of adapted sports, healthy physical activity, sports infrastructure and the use of technology.

The in-person discussion will be broadcast live on the LSM portal.

The forum will be based on the results of the State Research Programme "Sports" project #IMRSportsLV and the recommendations developed by researchers. In a moderated series of discussions, the research findings will serve as the basis for a conversation between scientists, decision-makers and those who will have to implement the recommendations in practice.

The aim of the forum is to promote data- and science-based decision-making to make Latvia's sports system healthier, safer, more accessible and more sustainable. At the same time, the forum will highlight the importance of sports science not only in high-performance sports, but also in promoting public health, municipal development and sports policy-making.

The first discussion will focus on the health, safety and long-term development of children and young people in sports. Researchers, policymakers, healthcare professionals, coaches and representatives of sports organisations will discuss how to use the latest research findings to improve the training process, reduce health risks and develop the youth sports system.

The second discussion will seek solutions for developing an accessible and sustainable adapted sports system for children, young people and adults with disabilities.

The third discussion will focus on the impact of physical activity on health and the need to systematically assess health risks in recreational sports. Experts will discuss the limits of healthy physical activity, the suitability of physical exercise for different population groups and opportunities to promote safe participation in sports.

The final discussion will focus on the socioeconomic indicators of the sports sector, accessibility of infrastructure and efficient use of resources.

Alongside the discussions, a sports science and technology exhibition (EXPO) will be open at the forum from 9:30 to 16:30, where visitors will be able to learn about the technological solutions and research achievements developed within the #IMRSportsLV project.

The forum will highlight the contribution of RSU and its cooperation partners to the development of sports science in Latvia, generating knowledge with practical applications in protecting athletes' health, the work of sports organisations and the development of national sports policy.
