Call for Participation
The aim of the 2025 International Conference of the Latvian Academy of Art (AAL ), "Myth – Archetype – Prototype and its (Re)interpretation", is to encourage researchers in the exact sciences, social sciences, and humanities to explore the constructs that initiate the creative process. Their continuity and application are always linked to creative adaptation, ensuring their evolution.
Conference Topics
- Archetypes and their influence on creative processes
- The role of prototypes in art and design
- Reinterpretation of myths and cultural symbols
- Postmodernism and the citation of traditions
- Visual culture and the information revolution
Charles Jencks and Postmodern Architecture
In his 1977 book "Language of Post-Modern Architecture", Charles Jencks declared the "death" of modern architecture and justified the incorporation of historical references into postmodern architecture. However, this idea was not new. Since the late 15th century, the widespread dissemination of printed book illustrations had a massive impact on material culture, influencing all aspects of life. Visualization contributed to the development of the material world, spanning science, religion, art, and design. Printed graphic models became sources of imitation and inspiration for architects as well as masters of visual and applied arts, maintaining their significance even today.
Design Impact Section
One of the thematic sections of the conference will be dedicated to understanding and evaluating the impact of design. Researchers are invited to examine the role of design not only in business but also in addressing environmental, societal, and political issues. Papers should explore new methods and approaches in understanding the impact of design, including:
- The impact of design on well-being and health
- Design and social inclusion
- The significance of design in environmental and climate contexts
- Design and innovation
