About event
During the Night of Scientists, visitors will be able to engage in simultaneous research by doing, discussing ideas by listening, and concluding by analysing. The parallel activities will provide an opportunity to choose and attend various events according to the program, including interactive workshops, exciting demonstrations, and laboratory tours. Thus, everyone will be able to find the most suitable way to become acquainted with research and technologies in the fields of agriculture and road transport.
In the crop production laboratory, visitors will learn about the cultivation of field crops, including cereals, legumes, and oilseeds widely grown in Latvia. Practical activities include grain cleaning, seed analysis and quality assessment, as well as understanding moisture, disease, and pest control. Factors that affect the harvest are also studied, including meteorological conditions, soil properties, agrotechnical measures, and genetic characteristics of varieties.
In the experimental greenhouse, visitors gain insight into the nuances of crop production in a controlled environment. Activities include learning about plants and conducting experiments that demonstrate how research principles are applied to ensure optimal growth and development.
In the agricultural machinery laboratory, visitors will learn about the operation of agricultural mechanisation equipment and aggregates, as well as the use of uncrewed aerial vehicles in agriculture to make informed decisions. By working interactively, they will be able to track the entire agricultural cycle – from sowing to crop processing.
In the motor transport laboratories, you will have the opportunity to learn about automotive technologies and their research aspects through practical experience. Here, they will be able to try out tire pressure regulation with an air compressor, understand the operation of hydraulic equipment and get to know the structure of car engines up close, analysing various aggregates and parts. In the car diagnostics laboratory, on the other hand, there will be an opportunity to check car systems with modern diagnostic equipment, learning how to detect damage and assess the technical condition. Visitors will also be able to explore the construction of a racing kart – from the engine and transmission to safety elements – discovering how theory turns into engineering practice. In these laboratories, there will be an opportunity not only to observe demonstrations but also to work, discuss, and find solutions themselves.
In the materials science workshop, visitors will learn about the properties of wood and their importance in practical applications. There will be an opportunity to study the structure of wood, compare the strength of different species and learn how moisture affects the quality of the material.
Please register for the visit in advance by emailing us.
NB! Student groups are also invited to participate. Since the activities take place in parallel and with repetitions, groups can be divided into several activities. The specific maximum number of participants depends on the capacity of the activity room, which will be indicated in the program.
