NordForsk, in collaboration with research funding organizations from the Baltic States, has announced a call for applications for Sustainable Health and Social Care Systems for the Elderly. The application deadline is February 20, 2025, at 13.00.
The primary goal of this call is to create knowledge and evidence-based solutions to equip and prepare the healthcare systems of the Nordic and Baltic countries to address challenges associated with an aging population.
The initiative focuses on solutions that ensure continuous healthcare chains, relying on active engagement from service users, close relatives, and social networks. These solutions should help maintain a good quality of life for elderly individuals and their relatives, while ensuring sustainable health, care, social systems, and health equity.

Eligibility and Partnerships
Applications must include a consortium with partners from research-performing organizations in at least three participating countries or territories, with two partners from Nordic countries (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Faroe Islands, Greenland, Åland, Iceland). Research organizations from other Nordic countries, apart from Sweden, Norway, Iceland, and Denmark, cannot act as project owners or co-owners but may participate in funded projects.
If the project owner is based in Estonia, Latvia, or Lithuania, the project must have a host institution in Norway, Sweden, Iceland, or Denmark, which will act as the contractual partner with NordForsk for the Nordic project component. The host institution must appoint a contact person who will serve as the administrative contact point for NordForsk.
Funding for Latvian Projects
The Latvian Council of Science will fund successful Latvian projects, with a budget of up to €300,000 per project (€100,000 per year, but no more than €300,000 total during the implementation period). The project duration can be up to four years and must comply with Latvia's national eligibility criteria.
Project applications must be submitted through the NordForsk application portal at Sustainable Health and Social Care Systems for Elderly - Insights (nordforsk.org).
