From September 25 to October 20, an open-air exhibition titled “Street of Science” will be on display in Riga, Torņa Street. This is a unique opportunity for everyone interested to explore the achievements of Latvian scientists within the National Research Programmes (NRP) and see how science influences our everyday lives – our health, work, environment, language, safety, and quality of life.

The exhibition will be located on one of Riga’s central pedestrian streets, offering easy access to a wide audience – both locals and visitors alike.

  • Location: Torņa Street, Riga
  • Dates: September 25 – October 20, 2025

“Street of Science” highlights select, impactful research results from projects within the National Research Programmes, administered by the Latvian Council of Science. These are research efforts that make a meaningful difference in all of our lives. The exhibition presents outcomes from several NRP projects that concluded in 2024 and 2025.

How are National Research Programmes created?
  • The government, in cooperation with relevant ministries, identifies specific societal, economic, developmental, sustainability, security, and other nationally significant needs.
  • These needs are then passed on to Latvian scientists to address through the National Research Programmes.
  • Scientists conduct research and seek data-driven, tested, innovative solutions.
  • As a society, we benefit from new knowledge, skills, innovations, and the development of new products, processes, and services – all aimed at solving sector-specific challenges and achieving strategic development goals.

Scientific achievements can be found in places we might least expect – from the technologies we use to the food we enjoy, from public safety to healthcare.

The opening of “Street of Science” on September 25 will mark the symbolic beginning of the public information campaign “Science and Your Life”.

Over the following three months, leading up to December, the campaign will showcase the benefits of National Research Programmes, offer behind-the-scenes glimpses into the work of scientists, and bring the public closer to the world of science – helping us all better understand new solutions, discoveries, and their relevance to society.

Science is present in every aspect of life. It constantly seeks answers and solutions to the challenges we all face.
