The project “Development of Magnetic Resonance in Latvia” (MR LATVIA) announces the opening of a Call for Applications for access to its advanced nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) research infrastructure. The call will be open from 2 February 2026 until 31 August 2027, offering researchers and innovators from the Baltic Sea region free access to high-level NMR facilities and professional support. This call is an important step towards establishing Latvia’s national NMR research facility, strengthening the country’s scientific capacity and integration into the European research area.

MR LATVIA is implemented in close cooperation with leading European NMR centres: Centre de RMN à très hauts champs- CRMN in Lyon, France and Centro Risonanze Magnetiche -CERM/ Consorzio Interuniversitario Risonanze Magnetiche di Metallo Proteine - CIRMMP Infrastructure in Florence, Italy, and is funded under the Horizon Europe WIDERA programme. The project aims to strengthen research excellence, improve access to advanced infrastructure, and enhance innovation capacity in Latvia and across the Baltic region.
The call is open to:
- academic researchers and research groups,
- early-career researchers and PhD candidates,
- industrial research and development (R&D) teams,
- small and medium-sized enterprises and start-ups.
Selected applicants will be granted free access to MR LATVIA’s NMR infrastructure, complemented by scientific and technical support from experienced specialists. The infrastructure enables high-quality research in structural biology, medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry, materials science, and molecular structure and dynamics.
MR LATVIA is being developed as a strategic long-term research infrastructure, positioning Latvia as a key high-field NMR competence centre in the Baltic region. The launch of this call marks the transition to full-scale service provision for the regional research and innovation community.
