Presentation of the results of the projects ‘Quantum Technologies Initiative’ and ‘Language Technologies Initiative

On June 26 at 14:00, in the “Alfa” auditorium of the University of Latvia (UL) House of Science, a closing event of the high‑level digital skills development projects “Quantum Technologies Initiative” and “Language Technologies Initiative” will take place. During the event, the results of both projects will be presented, achieved by strengthening competencies in quantum and language technologies in Latvia, developing research capacity, and promoting the training of new specialists in future technology fields.

The event will be opened by Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Science Ieva Siliņa, Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Latvia Andris Kužnieks, and Rector of the University of Latvia, Professor Gundars Bērziņš.

The results of the project “Quantum Technologies Initiative” will be presented by tenured professor of the UL Faculty of Exact Sciences and Technology (ESZF), Head of the Centre for Quantum Computer Science Andris Ambainis, Professor at Riga Technical University and Member of the Board of the Institute of Photonics, Electronics and Electronic Communications Jurģis Poriņš, as well as leading researcher of the UL Institute of Chemical Physics Gunta Kunakova.

Meanwhile, the achievements of the project “Language Technologies Initiative” will be presented by Professor Inguna Skadiņa of the Department of Computer Science at the UL Faculty of Exact Sciences and Technology (ESZF) and Head of the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at the UL Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, Professor Normunds Grūzītis.

The event will also feature a panel discussion “Quantum and Language Technologies – a Long‑term Investment in Latvia’s Future”. Participants will include Ieva Siliņa, UL Professor Vjačeslavs Kaščejevs, Director of the UL Institute of Solid State Physics Andris Anspoks, Normunds Grūzītis, and co‑founder and Board Member of the company “Tilde” Andrejs Vasiļjevs. The panelists will evaluate the development prospects of quantum and language technologies, their importance for Latvia’s competitiveness, and their contribution to building a knowledge‑based economy.

The project “Quantum Technologies Initiative” (No. 2.3.1.1.i.0/1/22/I/CFLA/001) was implemented by the University of Latvia, Riga Technical University, the Institute of Solid State Physics of the University of Latvia, and the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Latvia. Meanwhile, the project “Language Technologies Initiative” (No. 2.3.1.1.i.0/1/22/I/CFLA/002) was implemented by the University of Latvia, Riga Technical University, Rīga Stradiņš University, the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Latvia, the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia, and the company “Tilde”. Both projects were funded by the European Union Recovery Fund and the state budget.
