Workshops “AI in Research and Studies: Opportunities and Limitations”
About event
How can artificial intelligence be used purposefully, critically and responsibly in research and studies? The University of Latvia (UL) invites researchers, lecturers and students on 6 October from 11.00 to 16.30 at the University of Latvia, 4 Kalpaka Boulevard, 1st floor, to a practical workshop series “AI in Research and Studies: Opportunities and Limitations”, where participants will have the opportunity to explore the possibilities offered by AI tools, identify the risks associated with their use, and try out solutions developed by the University of Latvia for working with Latvian-language manuscripts and audio recordings.
Artificial intelligence is increasingly influencing how we learn, work and conduct research. However, alongside opportunities to process information more quickly and automate time-consuming tasks, questions also arise about the reliability of results, data security, academic integrity and human responsibility. The University of Latvia has developed guidelines on the use of artificial intelligence, providing an overview of good practices for applying AI tools, but the challenge remains how to choose the most suitable AI tools for specific tasks and how to use them responsibly without compromising the quality and reliability of research results.
In a series of three practical workshops, participants will become familiar with the principles of generative artificial intelligence, learn to critically evaluate the content it produces, and reflect on the balance between the opportunities offered by technology and human judgement. At the end of the series, participants will have the opportunity to gain practical experience with artificial intelligence tools developed at the University of Latvia for recognising Latvian-language handwriting and speech.
The event is primarily intended for University of Latvia researchers and lecturers, but students at all levels, especially doctoral students, are also invited to participate. Workshop participants will receive a certificate of participation from the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Latvia.
