AREI is Latvia’s leading field crop breeding institute, with a history spanning more than 100 years. Scientists at the AREI Priekuļi Research Centre breed field crop varieties and study different cultivation technologies and crop quality.
We invite Researchers’ Night visitors to explore the world of soil – a world that often goes unnoticed in everyday life, yet is full of life and surprising discoveries.
Visitors to the event will be able to:
- explore the diversity of plant roots and discover how plants can help improve soil;
- find out how many different species of seeds are hidden in the soil;
- learn how soil properties affect plants;
- take a closer look at earthworms and discover what else lives in the soil;
find the answer to whether plants always need soil in order to grow.
Young researchers will have the opportunity to create their own bacterium, whose “soil” is the human body, paint with soil and explore soil using different senses.

- Registration for the event is not required.
