The Science Council of Latvia announces the third round of selection of research applications within the framework of the European Union Cohesion Policy Programme 2021–2027, specific support objective 1.1.1.9. measure "Postdoctoral Research" - for research applications related to economic activities.

The aim of the selection round is to develop the skills of young scientists and increase their scientific capacity, providing opportunities to start a career in scientific institutions and with businesses, as well as to promote the improvement of research competencies and an increase in the number of qualified specialists in Latvia.

Key information:
  • Deadline for submitting research applications: from May 19, 2025 to July 18, 2025 (5:00 p.m.)
  • Total funding available within the selection round: EUR 3,847,200
  • Maximum funding for one research application: EUR 192,360
  • Duration of research application implementation: up to 36 months, but no longer than until June 30, 2029
  • Selection type: open selection of research applications
  • Research application type: fundamental or industrial research related to economic activity
Who can submit research applications:
  • A merchant registered in the Register of Enterprises of the Republic of Latvia (micro, small, medium or large)
  • A scientific institution that does not meet the definition of a research organization
  • A scientific institution that meets the definition of a research organization if the research is implemented as part of an economic activity

The research application can be implemented individually or in partnership with another Latvian or foreign institution or business entity that provides postdoctoral admission, infrastructure, or human resources.

Funding intensity

For fundamental research:
  • 85% regardless of the size of the enterprise
For industrial research:
  • 70% – for micro and small enterprises
  • 60% – for medium-sized enterprises
  • 50% – for large enterprises

The support intensity can be increased to 80% if public access to research results is ensured (conferences, repositories, open source software, etc.).


Supported research areas (in accordance with the Latvian Smart Specialization Strategy):
  • Knowledge-intensive bioeconomy
  • Biomedicine, medical technologies, pharmacy
  • Photonics and smart materials, technologies and engineering systems
  • Smart energy and mobility
  • Information and communication technologies
Submission procedure:

Research applications must be submitted electronically to the Postdoctoral Research Information System [LV]


Before submitting, you must obtain access to the system by concluding a user agreement at least two weeks before the submission deadline. More information and sample documents are available. [LV]

The research application annexes “Scientific Description” and “Postdoctoral Candidate CV” must be prepared in English, the other documents – in Latvian.
