On 13 May from 9:00 to 17:00, the international microchip industry forum “Riga Chip Summit 2026” will take place at the VEF Chamber Hall “Spīdola”, Ieriķu Street 5a, bringing together industry leaders, investors, researchers and startups from across Europe. The event is organised by the Latvian Microchip Competence Centre in close cooperation with the LMT Group and the Baltic microchip competence centres, strengthening Baltic–Nordic cooperation and the region’s position within the European semiconductor ecosystem.

“Riga Chip Summit 2026” will offer a broad programme that includes expert and startup presentations, collaboration sessions and networking opportunities. Its focus will be the European semiconductor ecosystem and the opportunities offered to companies and researchers by the European Union (EU) initiative “Chips Joint Undertaking”.

“Semiconductors are the backbone of smart technologies – without them, everyday smart devices, technologies in the medical or energy sectors, or the development of artificial intelligence would be unimaginable. The aim of the ‘Riga Chip Summit’ is to create a platform where science, industry and innovation meet to promote active involvement of Latvia and the region in the European semiconductor ecosystem. Such a forum gives companies and researchers the opportunity not only to understand the available possibilities but also to build concrete collaborations and develop new projects,” emphasises Alise Pizika, Acting Vice‑Rector for Innovation at RTU.

The Vice‑Rector for Science of the University of Latvia (UL), Guntars Kitenbergs, highlights: “To strengthen the competitiveness of Latvia and Europe, it is important that we identify and develop our competences in semiconductor technologies and meaningfully integrate into their value chains. Such forums provide time and space for the exchange of knowledge and experience and for generating new ideas. We can achieve this only together, which is why I am pleased that we are organising the event in cooperation with our Baltic partners and LMT.”

“Cooperation between industry, research and the innovation ecosystem is essential for moving towards products with higher added value, such as microchips. The LMT Group’s experience in the IoT field shows that it is already possible to create high‑tech products that are in international demand. However, for the Baltic region to be more competitive globally, we must work together rather than in a fragmented way. The ‘Riga Chip Summit’ is an important step in strengthening the Baltic region’s position and building new partnerships with European and international stakeholders,” notes Ingmārs Pūķis, Member of the Management Board of the LMT Group and Vice President for Marketing and Business Development.

The summit will feature Laith Altimime, President of “SEMI Europe”, one of the world’s leading semiconductor industry associations, as well as Régis Hamelin, coordinator of “aCCCess” and Chief Technology Officer at “Blumorpho”, who is also the coordinator of the EU microchip design platform.

The Latvian Microchip Competence Centre is a national coordination centre that promotes the development of the semiconductor and microelectronics sector in Latvia by strengthening cooperation between science and industry and ensuring access to expertise, infrastructure and funding.

The project is funded by the EU programme “Digital Europe” under Grant Agreement No. 101217976.
