About event
The international pitching competition "Falling Walls Lab Riga, Latvia" will take place on June 30 at 2:00 PM at the Science House of the University of Latvia (Jelgavas iela 3, Riga). The competition will bring together students and young researchers from various fields who will briefly and convincingly present their ideas in three minutes that could change society, science and the world as a whole. The winner will get the opportunity to participate in the world final in Berlin.
"Falling Walls Lab" is an international project that takes place annually in more than 70 cities around the world. In Latvia, the competition is organised by the DAAD Information Centre in Riga in cooperation with the University of Latvia and the Latvian Association of Young Scientists.
"The 'Falling Walls Lab'" competition is a celebration of the impact of science, communication and global thinking, and I am pleased that after a 7-year break, this year we will celebrate them at the University of Latvia," says Tatjana Pladere, the initiator of this initiative in Latvia, lead researcher.
The winner will be determined by a jury from academia, industry and the public sector, evaluating three criteria:
- Novelty of the idea
- Significance of the idea and its impact on the world
- Presentation and its structure
The winner of the "Falling Walls Lab Riga, Latvia" will participate in the world final on November 6 this year in Berlin and the "Falling Walls Science Summit 2026", thus joining an international network of researchers and innovators. The finalists also participate in an extended program in Berlin, which includes professional skills development, networking opportunities and visits to leading research institutions. Travel and accommodation costs will be covered by the DAAD Information Centre in Riga.
Participation in the competition is free. Applications for participation in the competition are accepted until May 31, 2026.
