About event
The University of Latvia and the association “Latvijas formula 2050” invite you to the conference “Bureaucracy and Society,” which will take place on May 16 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the University of Latvia Academic Center, Magnum Auditorium of the House of Nature (Jelgavas Street 1, Riga). The conference will explore the phenomenon of bureaucracy and the possibilities for its reduction.
Objectives of the Event
-
To examine the phenomenon of bureaucracy and answer the timeless question: Why does society continue to demand bureaucracy despite general dislike toward it?
-
To discuss reducing bureaucracy and encouraging accountability by exploring two different approaches: deregulation and simplification of normative regulation.
-
To debunk the myth that the extreme form of deregulation leads to anarchy, highlighting that external regulations can be replaced with self-regulation.
-
To encourage the review of normative regulation by addressing two key questions:
-
How many staff-hours does implementation require from the public administration?
-
How many staff-hours does it require from citizens/clients?
-
Participants will include representatives from academia, public administration, social partners, and NGOs.
Conference moderators: Board members of “Latvijas formula 2050” – Dr. oec. Juris Binde, President of LMT, and Prof. Mārcis Auziņš, Chairman of the Council of the University of Latvia.
