International Sustainable Mobility Conference “Look at the Future of Mobility”

On 3 November, from 9:00 to 16:00, the fourth international conference “Look at the Future of Mobility” will take place at Riga Technical University’s (RTU) lecture hall building “Domus Auditorialis”, 8 Zunda Embankment. This year, particular attention will be paid to the role of policy in the development of sustainable mobility, the transformation of global supply chains, and security in a changing geopolitical and economic environment.

High-level experts will take part in the conference, discussing how political decisions concerning “Rail Baltica” and “airBaltic” will affect Latvia’s connectivity, competitiveness and security, and how political choices more broadly influence sustainable transport. Attention will also be paid to national security challenges and development opportunities in the context of Latvia’s transit corridor, as well as lessons that can be learned from Ukraine as Russia attacks transport infrastructure. Experts will also discuss Ukraine’s experience of civil-military cooperation in crisis situations and consider how Latvia’s transport sector can support national defence, military mobility and resilience in times of crisis. The conference will also address mobility and security in the Eastern border region and why Europe needs a new approach to drone technologies and critical infrastructure.

Experts will also address other highly topical issues, such as how the loss of traditional east–west freight flows will affect the future of Latvia’s ports and Baltic logistics, and what Latvia needs to do to become a regional supply chain hub. The discussion will also explore how resilient transport infrastructure and supply chains can strengthen Europe’s strategic autonomy, and which policy drivers and support instruments could help build a sustainable transport system, possibly centred on rail.

For the fourth consecutive year, the conference serves as a platform where industry professionals, academics and students can meet policymakers, engage in discussions, develop guidelines and provide expertise that drives positive change. “Look at the Future of Mobility 2026” is organised by RTU and AS “LatRailNet”.
