About event
On February 20, 2025, from 16:00 to 17:00, the guest lecture by Associate Professor Marta Urbāne from the Faculty of Social Sciences at Rīga Stradiņš University will take place at the National Library of Latvia and online, titled "Artificial Intelligence in Consumer Protection in the Age of Algorithms: Solution or Threat?"
Lecture Description: Artificial intelligence subtly influences what we buy, how much we pay for it, and whether our complaints are heard. The question arises whether it protects consumers or manipulates them instead. From algorithmic pricing that changes in real-time to AI-influenced decisions that may not even be truthful, countless hidden processes occur in the digital marketplace. This lecture will reveal the opportunities and shortcomings of AI in consumer protection by analyzing current cases in the digital environment and addressing the latest AI regulations in the EU.
