A New State Funding Platform will be Announced

About event
On January 29, 9:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M., the launch of a new research and innovation program will take place in rooms 103 and 104 of the Academic Center of the University of Latvia (UL) in the Science House (Jelgavas iela 3). As part of the program, state funding of 12.8 million euros is planned for scientists to create new technologies until the end of 2026.
The funding will be available under the national research program "Innovation Fund – Long-term Research Program" project “Biomedical and Photonics Research Platform for the Creation of Innovative Products,” or "BioPhoT." Its goal is to promote collaboration and technology development in the fields of biomedicine, photonics, smart materials science, and the commercial sector.
The program is expected to run until 2032. During this period, it is planned to create 35 new and competitive technologies in biomedicine, medical technologies, pharmaceuticals, photonics, smart materials, electronics, technologies, and engineering systems.
The event will provide an opportunity to learn about the project’s goals and benefits, deadlines, conditions, and the application process, as well as to clarify any questions of interest.
The event will feature:
- Project leader, Director of the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis (OSI), Osvalds Pugovičs
- Deputy State Secretary for Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Economics, Raivis Bremšmits
- Deputy State Secretary for Human Capital, Science, and Innovation Development at the Ministry of Education and Science, Jānis Paiders
- Rector of the University of Latvia, Prof. Gundars Bērziņš
- Director of the Latvian Science Council, Lauma Muižniece
