The Regional Conference on "Creating Sustainable Value and Societal Well-being in Latvia's Regions" organized by the Department of Regional Studies of the University of Latvia (UL) Study Department and UL branches, invites you to attend. The conference will be held on Wednesday, March 12, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on the Zoom platform.
The UL Regional Conference has received a positive response from specialists in various fields from Latvia’s regions. This year, the conference will invite local government representatives, researchers, and practitioners in education, culture, and social work to present current research on promoting societal well-being in Latvia’s regions, as well as on creating sustainable value. Topics will include inclusive education in schools, extracurricular education, meaningful learning processes, lifelong learning in regions, trends in social work such as community work in rural areas, how culture promotes societal well-being (the significance of museums and song festivals), development of socio-emotional skills, and other topics related to education, culture, health, social work, and governance.
The plenary session will be opened by Professor Kristīne Strada-Rozenberga, Vice-Rector for Studies at UL. The conference will be moderated by Gunta Kraģe, Head of the Department of Regional Studies at UL, and Ruta Karloviča, Head of the UL Kuldīga Branch.
Speakers at the conference will include: Emeritus Professor Ilze Ivanova from UL, Lecturer Gunta Kraģe from UL, Professor Līga Peiseniece, Rector of the Banku Augstskola, Jeļena Žoide, Head of the Lifelong Learning Department of Jelgava Municipality, Lecturer Daiga Kalēja-Gasparoviča from UL, Santa Baidekalne, graduate of the UL Alūksne branch and teacher at the “Auseklītis” preschool, Zane Grīnvalde, Head of the Madona Local History and Art Museum, Associate Professor Ineta Helmane from UL, Atis Egliņš-Eglītis, Deputy Chairman of the Cēsis Municipality, Inga Surgunte, Cultural Project Manager, Baiba Roze, Cultural Mediator, Līga Megne, Head of the "Bitīte" preschool in Kuldīga, Inga Mulikeviča, graduate of the UL Tukums branch, Madara Jaunzeme, student at the UL Kuldīga branch, and other specialists from various fields.
As part of the UL 83rd International Scientific Conference, the Regional Conference will focus on the issues that municipalities want to discuss this year, as well as the topics proposed by university lecturers: research findings and scientific insights that would be useful for Latvian citizens.
Each year, the topics change, and what makes the Regional Conference engaging is that it offers specialists from various fields the opportunity to share their research findings, exchange experiences, and promote societal well-being by improving knowledge and sharing the latest developments across various fields. This year, the conference speakers will represent Riga, Alūksne, Cēsis, Kuldīga, Tukums, Jelgava, Madona, Valmiera, and other locations. The online format of the conference allows participants from all over Latvia to join. The Regional Conference is a place to meet, gather relevant information backed by research data and facts, and discuss what is important for every Latvian citizen.
Gunta Kraģe, Head of the UL Department of Regional Studies, emphasizes, "We invite researchers, practitioners, policymakers, teachers, parents, students, graduates, and other interested parties to attend the conference, listen to the speakers, and discuss issues important to the regions."
