Research Workshop in the Teika Neighbourhood
About event
Researchers from Riga Stradiņš University (RSU) invite the public to attend the third research workshop in the Teika neighbourhood on Wednesday, 29 April, at 3:00 p.m. This time, the workshop will be dedicated to the theme of movement and physical activity. All residents of Teika and neighbouring areas are welcome to attend. Participation is also encouraged for those who did not take part in previous workshops, with special emphasis on people aged 50 and over. Registration is not required, and participation is free of charge.
The workshop is organised within the framework of the project “Improve Your Habits.” The aim of the project is to strengthen public health by applying citizen science principles, offering tools and opportunities to provide targeted support for neighbourhood residents and to promote sustainable changes in health-related behaviour.
Previous workshops have addressed the role of photography in exploring the local environment and lifestyle habits. This time, the workshop will focus more on understanding the concept of physical activity itself, as it is important to know that different types of physical activity have different effects on the human body. There are activities that can help improve muscle strength (for example, strength training at a gym), activities that can enhance endurance (for example, brisk walking), and activities that can help improve balance and coordination (for example, sports games).
The workshops are organised not only to educate residents about aspects of a healthy lifestyle and the influence of the environment on physical activity, but also to provide an opportunity to participate in an innovative pilot study.
In citizen science, residents are co-researchers
The project “Improve Your Habits” embodies the idea that science is not separate from society—it is created in collaboration with people whose everyday experiences are a valuable resource in building a healthier and more inclusive community.
Questions about this workshop can be sent by email to didzis.rozenbergs@rsu.lv.
