Scientists’ Breakfast. Artificial intelligence and digital medicine in the doctor’s office

At the June Scientists’ Breakfast of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), the focus will be on the question of how artificial intelligence and digital medicine are entering the doctor’s daily work and transforming healthcare practice.

At the event, RSU researchers and experts will discuss the possibilities of data-driven solutions in diagnostics, patient engagement, and disease monitoring. RSU researchers will share their experience, whose scientific work and expertise cover several important areas of digital medicine, and whose projects within the Fundamental and Applied Research Programme are related to the application of artificial intelligence in medical imaging, the development of digital solutions for patient engagement in screening programmes, and the advancement of digital biomarkers for assessing the course of chronic diseases.

Participants

Assoc. Prof. Maija Radziņa, Acting Research Professor (tenure professor), leading researcher. Studies the application of artificial intelligence in medical imaging, with a particular emphasis on early detection of metastases and the reliability of algorithms.

Artis Alksnis, laboratory assistant. Develops digital solutions for patient engagement in screening programmes.

Uldis Berķis, Leading researcher. Develops digital biomarkers for assessing the course of chronic diseases.

In the discussion, experts will focus on where digital solutions already provide real benefits and help save resources, whether artificial intelligence can notice what may slip past a doctor’s eye, how to act in situations when data do not match clinical intuition, and how to maintain a balance between technological capabilities and a humane attitude towards the patient. At the same time, attention will also be paid to the transparency of algorithms, the reliability of data, and patient autonomy in digital healthcare.
