Summer School "Curatorial Strategies: Research and Experimentation"

About event
The Latvian Academy of Arts and the National Library of Latvia invite you to the public program events of the international summer school “Curatorial Strategies: Research and Experiment” on July 28 and August 1.
The aim of the summer school is to draw attention to the processes that explore the role of the curator in contemporary art and memory institutions in Latvia. More than 30 years have passed since the inception of curatorial practices in Latvia, and although various attempts have been made to define the role and work of a curator, this field remains in development. In recent years, interest in it has also been growing in a research context. The summer school offers to view curatorial practice both as a field of research and as a space for creative experiments that promote an inclusive and diverse cultural environment.
From July 28 to August 1, summer school participants will attend lectures and workshops at several memory and independent institutions for five days. Public events are planned for a wider audience on the opening and closing days of the school:
July 28 – lecture day at the Art Academy of Latvia, (Working languages - English and Latvian)
Readings will be given by:
writer, researcher, and curator Lucy Steeds,
art critic and curator Andris Brinkmanis,
artist, educator, and researcher Mick Wilson.
August 1 – excursion to the open-air art space "Savvaļa", where there will be an opportunity to get to know the concept of this unique place, meet its creators, and learn about the residency program. The tasks prepared by the summer school participants will also be presented during the day.
