Latvia Among World Leaders in Deep Tech Innovation: 7th on the Hello Tomorrow Radar

Latvia is increasingly asserting its place in the global science-based innovation landscape. International deep technology platforms Hello Tomorrow published in 2026 Global Deep Tech Pioneers Radar The report ranks Latvia 7th in the world for the number of deep tech start-ups per capita. This result confirms the ability of Latvia's research and innovation ecosystem to create technologies with global potential, and highlights the importance of platforms such as BioPhoT in the development of this ecosystem.

Latvia is ranked 31st among 100 countries in the overall ecosystem ranking, and 7th in the world on a per capita basis, becoming one of the world leaders in deep technology innovation. Global Deep Tech Pioneers Radar is based on more than a decade of Hello Tomorrow Challenge data on tens of thousands of early-stage, deep-tech start-ups from around the world. These projects are evaluated through an international selection process involving an independent jury of industry experts, investors and innovation leaders.

“BioPhoT facilitates the translation of research ideas into technologies with commercial potential by supporting research teams in the early stages of innovation. The platform focuses on deep technology areas where Latvia has high growth potential, including biomedicine, medical technologies, photonics, smart materials, electronics and other engineering sectors.

These international assessments show that research-based projects created in Latvia can indeed compete on a global level. Deep-tech innovations are often born in laboratories and research teams, and only become visible in the commercial world or in industry. International assessments that highlight these early signals of technology development therefore help to spot the countries and ecosystems where the next generation of innovations is emerging.

In order to strengthen the international visibility of Latvia's deep technology innovations and promote cooperation with investors and industry, BioPhoT in cooperation with the Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA) will participate in this year's Hello Tomorrow Global Summit. It is one of the world's most important deep tech events, bringing together start-ups, researchers, investors and technology companies from around the world. Each year, the event attracts more than 3000 participants, creating an environment for new technology development, partnerships and investment.

“BioPhoT's participation in the conference is also part of a wider international collaboration. To promote the involvement of Latvian researchers and start-ups in global innovation networks, BioPhoT will take place on 26 January 2026” Industry Days A strategic Memorandum of Understanding was signed with Hello Tomorrow, which provides for closer cooperation with one of the world's leading deep-tech innovation platforms.

“BioPhoT invites platform research project teams to apply Hello Tomorrow Global Summit 2026, which will take place in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on 11-12 June. Eight BioPhoT research teams will be selected through a competitive process to represent Latvia at the event and present their technologies to an international audience.

Selected teams will get the chance to:

  • Participate in the Hello Tomorrow Global Summit 2026 in Amsterdam
  • receive travel and accommodation expenses per team member
  • present your technology at the BioPhoT stand in the international exhibition area
  • build direct contacts with investors and industry partners

In addition, teams that confirm Hello Tomorrow experts, will also have the opportunity to participate in Investor Day 10 June - an exclusive event bringing together leading deep tech investors and technology leaders.

Membership Hello Tomorrow Global Summit will allow to present Latvian science-based innovations to an international audience, while strengthening the visibility of Latvia's deep technology ecosystem and creating new contacts with potential partners, investors and industry representatives.
