
The Riga East University Hospital Representatives Visit BBMRI.LV

On August 13, the Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre was visited by the Chairman of the Board of Riga East University Hospital, Prof. Haralds Plaudis, representatives of the laboratory and the RAKUS Biobank or Tissue Centre.

The Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre is the maintainer of the Latvian National Biobank Network, BBMRI.LV, and its head Dr. biol. Vita Rovīte shared their experience in the field of biobanks with representatives of Riga East University Hospital. During the visit, the guests were given an overview of the activities of BBMRI-ERIC.
During the meeting, the representatives of Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre and Riga East University Hospital agreed on further cooperation in the creation of the National Population Genome Information System, the development of joint biobank activities in Latvia, as well as on the involvement of Riga East University Hospital in the Latvian National Biobank Network BBMRI Latvija. Possible further scientific cooperation and the development of new joint projects were also discussed, where BMC's main contribution would be molecular biology research, while Riga East University Hospital would provide significant support in the field of clinical medicine.
BBMRI.LV is the national coordinator of the BBMRI-ERIC infrastructure in Latvia, established by the organisation's statutes, and whose task is to create a national biobank network in Latvia, as well as ensure its interaction with BBMRI-ERIC.
BMC is implementing the project “Development of Latvia's research potential by strengthening the integration of the Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre into European infrastructures and scientific networks” No. 1.1.1.5/3/24/I/006, where one of the implementation activities is aimed at the development of Latvian scientific excellence, providing for the achievement of the performance indicators of the Latvian National Partnership Plan for the Biobank and Molecular Resources Research Infrastructure (BBMRI-ERIC).
