The National Library of Latvia, or the Castle of Light, is not just a repository of books – it is a place where discussions take place, new ideas emerge, and dialogue is created. The library promotes scientific conversations and collaboration by ensuring the accessibility of knowledge and fostering the recognition of science in society. Mg. art., Mg. soc. Dagnija Baltiņa, Director of the National Library of Latvia and doctoral candidate in history, is responsible for the development of this significant institution and its role in Latvia's research environment.
"The National Library of Latvia is a thought leader, a valuable conversation partner, and a model of scientific excellence. We are pleased that prominent think tanks and platforms, such as the World Congress of Latvian Scientists and CERN's permanent exhibition, choose to collaborate with us," emphasizes D. Baltiņa. She highlights the library's role in preserving cultural heritage as an active partner in scientific dialogue and research support.

The National Library of Latvia has become a significant venue for international conferences, scientific discussions, and research project presentations. The library regularly organizes scientific events and promotes collaboration among researchers, academic institutions, and society, strengthening the presence of science in the public space.
Since 2018, D. Baltiņa has led the National Library of Latvia Special Collections Department, developing scientific research activities and organizing the management of special collections. During this time, she has led significant research projects and grants that have received high recognition both in Latvia and internationally. Under her leadership, the National Library of Latvia actively participates in international organizations UNESCO, CERL (Consortium of European Research Libraries), LIBER (Association of European Research Libraries), and Europeana (European Digital Cultural Heritage Platform), collaborates with other libraries around the world, and has implemented the National Library of Latvia event cycle "500 Years of Latvian Books".
A modern library not only preserves knowledge but also actively participates in its creation and dissemination, forming a link between science and society.
