Thematic Section "Youth Research" of the Conference "Cultural Crossroads XX"
About event
How do young people in Latvia view national defence, how actively do they participate in democratic processes, and what challenges do they face in the digital environment? On Friday, 6 November, at the Latvian Academy of Culture (LAC) Miera Street Quarter (58a Miera Street), researchers will present the latest studies on the experiences, participation and challenges of children and young people in Latvia in contemporary society through eleven presentations in the thematic section "Youth Research" of the conference "Cultural Crossroads XX".
The section will bring together researchers from the Latvian Academy of Culture (LAC), the University of Latvia, Tampere University and the association "European Movement in Latvia", addressing a wide range of issues – from young people's civic participation and attitudes towards national defence to risks in the digital environment, artificial intelligence and cultural accessibility. The section will be moderated by Gints Klāsons, a researcher and applied research project manager at the Institute of Culture and Arts of the Latvian Academy of Culture (LAC ICA).
One of the key issues addressed in the section will be young people's attitudes towards national defence and their involvement in democratic processes. Equally significant attention will be paid to young people's experiences in the digital environment. The presentations will examine digital skills, online risks, and the opportunities and challenges posed by artificial intelligence.
In recent years, the Institute of Culture and Arts of the Latvian Academy of Culture has been involved in significant research in the field of youth, both by working on monitoring youth policy and youth work and researching various groups of young people, and by taking the lead in the State Research Programme project "Prerequisites for Authentic Youth Participation in Formal and Non-Formal Education (UNFRAMED)".
The "Youth Research" section of the conference "Cultural Crossroads XX" is organised within the framework of the State Research Programme project "Prerequisites for Authentic Youth Participation in Formal and Non-Formal Education" / UNFRAMED (No. VPP-IZM-Izglītība-2023/6-0002).
